Springfield, Illinois – June 22, 2021 – Governor of Illinois J.B. Pritzker and Maj. Gen. Neely, the Adjutant General of Illinois, have selected Brigadier General Rodney Boyd as the next Assistant Adjutant General – Army and Commander of the Illinois Army National Guard. BG Boyd will become the first African American officer to command the 10,000 soldiers of the Illinois Army National Guard.
Boyd is a decorated combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, commanded the 108th Sustainment Brigade, and held key command and staff positions throughout his career. He has had a successful civilian career in law enforcement and has worked for MAG since April 2018 supporting the Army National Guard Mission Command Training Support Program out of the AASKI Engineering and Technology Business Unit.
We’re extremely proud of BG Boyd and his appointment is well-deserved. He is a valued member of MAG and all that work alongside him know the next generation of young soldiers will benefit from his commitment to exemplary service. Boyd’s professionalism, ethics, and drive for success are prime examples of why SERVE WIN PERFORM continues to guide the work we do at MAG.
