Woodbridge, Virginia – October 13, 2017 – MAG Aerospace has won the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) UAS contract, a US Department of State contract with services based in Somalia. Under this contract, MAG provides turnkey support to provide real-time situational awareness to AMISOM, Somalia National Army (SNA), and coalition partners. The intent is to use the unarmed unmanned aerial surveillance platform to detect and monitor armed group activities, with an emphasis on counter-improvised explosive devices (C-IED), monitoring main supply routes, and overwatch to AMISOM and SNA forces. AMISOM is an active, regional peacekeeping mission operated by the African Union with the approval of the United Nations in Somalia.
